Alaska Physician Dispensing Laws & Regulations

Physician dispensing is allowed in Alaska; however, per the Alaska State Medical Board Issued Guidelines a physician may not represent him or herself as a pharmacist or as having a pharmacy on site, and must comply with applicable professional and ethical standards, as well as prescription counseling. Physicians should notify the Alaska Composite Medical Board of their intent to begin dispensing.
According to 12 Alaska Admin. Code § 40.450, physician assistants can also dispense medications with the authorization of the physician assistant’s primary collaborating physician.
